B.Tech Degree Course in Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, established in the year 1958, of GEC Thrissur has been considered as one of the best department among other engineering colleges in Kerala because of the quality of education and state-of-the art facilities offered to students in the relevant areas of the course.

Department offers B.Tech degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). Before 2015 admission, the programme was under Calicut University and after the introduction of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technological University (A.P.J.A.K.T.U.), the programme is affiliated to it. Presently the department has an intake of 120 students from Govt. quota admission of Entrance Commissioner of Kerala for this program.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of GEC Thrissur is considered to be one of the oldest one and now it has full-fledged laboratories viz. Electrical Measurements Lab, Analog Electronics Lab, Electrical Machines Lab, Power Electronics Lab, Advanced Electrical Engineering Lab, Software Lab etc… All laboratories are equipped with modern devices /equipments to provide sufficient knowledge to students to make them aware of the up-to-date technologies. Students are getting hands on experience with these sophisticated equipments and this helps them to be competent in the core engineering field.  Apart from curricular activities, students are exposed to the outside technological world through some of the professional bodies like IEEE, ISTE etc…

The strength of every department is its faculty and staff. Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department is having well qualified and professionally experienced faculty members and experienced and dedicated non-teaching staff. Experiences of teaching and non-teaching staff help students to develop their engineering skills. The training provided in the department along with the effort from their part will fulfill the dreams of every students passing out from this department.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

1.To mould the students to global standards by providing  knowledge in Basic sciences and Mathematics, in general  and Electrical & Electronics Engineering in particular

2.To impart necessary skills and practical knowledge to design,  analyze and synthesize Electrical & Electronic systems using modern problem solving tools and techniques.

3.To equip the students with effective oral and written communication skills, professional ethics and team work capabilities for a successful professional career.

4.To instill self confidence and leadership  qualities to become innovative engineers and entrepreneurs, with an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  1. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  1. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  1. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  1. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  1. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  1. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  1. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  1. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  1. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  1. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  1. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)
