GECT Research Activities

Government Engineering College, Thrissur (GECT) is actively involved in diverse areas of research work leading to PhD degree under the departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Architecture and Mathematics. Opportunities exist for candidates to do full-time as well as part-time research in the institute with registration under APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

GECT entered into the area of active research in the year 1985 and the Department of Chemical Engineering became the first recognized ‘research centre’ in the institute under the University of Calicut. Later, in the year 2008, Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering attained the status as recognized ‘research centre’ under the University of Calicut. The details of the PhDs produced under University of Calicut are given below.

Later, in 2015, the institute was recognized as ‘Research Centre’ under APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. Since then, 132 candidates have enrolled as research scholars under the different departments. The full time research scholars are admitted under various fellowship schemes like ADF, UGC-JRF, CERD, APJAKDF etc.

Moreover, the following departments of GECT are AICTE approved QIP Centers from 2011 onwards and every year faculty members from various institutes are admitted as research scholars under the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP).

• Department of Mechanical Engineering

Sponsored research projects investigated by the faculties and supported by various Government and research organizations have helped the Institute in acquiring state of the art instruments and equipment necessary for carrying out high quality research. Research projects of academic nature as well as those aimed at solving industrial problems are being pursued.

The office of the Dean-Research coordinates all research activities of the Institute in compliance with the regulations of the university. The coordination and conduction of doctoral committee meetings, communication and liaison with the university as well as funding / sponsoring agencies etc. are looked after by this office.
