GEC Thrissur has separate Men’s hostel and Women’s hostels for UG, PG and PhD students. All the hostels are located in the college campus. There are five hostel blocks for Men’s namely A,B,C,D and E, situated nearby the main campus and college ground. The Women’s hostel blocks Remya, Reshmi, Revathy, Chithira and Athira, located at a walkable distance along the Pallimoola-Viyyur road, nearby power house junction in Thrissur-Shornur highway. Hostel office is functioning at ‘A’ block in Men’s hostel.
A Primary Health Centre (PHC) is located in the campus nearby Women’s hostel and Staff quarters. All the hostels provide comfortable and encouraging atmosphere to develop inborn abilities of inmates. Also the hostel ambience provides scope for developing pleasant communal living and enables them to share the joy of unity and professional fraternity. Indoor facilities for sports are available in both Men’s and Women’s hostels.
Hostel admission procedure is as per the institute norms purely based on Kerala Government rules. The men’s hostel has 244 rooms and can accommodate 528 students. The ladies hostel has 154 rooms which can accommodate 462 students. The hostel is administered by a Hostel committee comprises of staff at various levels and periodically review the planning and execution. At Women’s hostel, in-house matrons and sick room attendant are there for ensuring medical care and smooth functioning of hostels.
The mess is run on dividing system by the mess committee with a mess director elected from the hostel inmates. Mess committee decide the monthly/weekly menu in consultations with other inmates. The items required for the menu are procured from the suppliers and the stocks are entered in a book. The items delivered to the cooking staff are weighed and the representatives update the balance in the stock book. The mess director meets the warden and concerned staff frequently for assistance in the administration connected with mess. The committee also discusses the requirements for the hostel development with the administration.
The Hostel shall be under the direct control of the warden assisted by assistant wardens and resident tutors (RTs). The warden shall have powers to issue instructions and standing orders to regulate the internal matters of the hostel and the warden’s decision shall be final in all matters connected with the hostel. Also the warden reserves its right to change the existing rules from time to time keeping the students informed through general circular displayed on the hostel notice boards and all the residents of the hostels have to strictly obey these rules.
