DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
The Electrical and Electronics Engineering association organizes seminars and workshops on a regular basis for the benefits of the students. The Department has been organizing a national level paper presentation contest and Exhibition “RESONANCE” every year. The IEEE student chapter is also very active. As part of the undergraduate and graduate programs, the department undertakes several projects of technical importance. The department has a long history of close association with industries and offers consultancy in the fields of electrical system design, energy audit, electrical distribution systems etc. Testing facilities for measuring instruments and machines are also available. A well equipped Research Laboratory in the department help many researchers to do their project works effectively. The placement wing of the department lends active support to the college placement cell for conducting campus interviews and has been able to obtain placement for a considerable number of students in prominent industries. The department has conducted several short term courses on topics related to latest developments in the domain. The department has also received Direct Central Assistance for several projects. These include AICTE funds for Microprocessor Laboratory, Control System Laboratory, Data Acquisition Laboratory, Modernization of Power Electronics Laboratory and a research grant for Career Award.
The Electrical & Electronics Department is conducting various academic & extra curricular activities for the benefit of students and faculties. The main event ‘Resonance is being conducted every year which includes Paper presentation contests, Project competitions, Quiz, Exhibition of latest technologies etc. The projects and seminars presented by EEE students has been recognized in the national level.The department regularly conducts Workshops and Short Term training Programmes for the students as well as faculty members. The various funded projects include, CERD for research (3 nos), MODROBS from AICTE (2 nos.) & DST-FIST. Students of EEE department has also formed Language club for making all students well versed in the Language and presentation skills.

Counselling and Career Guidance Cell
The counselling cell has been working in the college from 2005. The objective of the cell is to educate the teaching faculty especially the tutors about the psychological, emotional and social issues a student has to undergo. The cell hopes that this awareness creates a better emotional well being among students which is essential for academic development. It also offers counselling facilities and also external interventions as and when needed for the students.
Industry – Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC)
Industry-Institute Interaction Cell is functioning in this college as a forum for interaction between industries and the college, for mutual benefit. Industry can help the institution by sponsoring R & D activities and providing placement to deserving candidates. The testing and laboratory facilities in the college can be utilized by the industries for their day-to-day needs. Further, the innovative ideas of the students can be pooled for commercial application. It will also help the industries to keep abreast with the developments in the field of Science, Engineering and technology.It is maintaining close liaison with the District Industries Centre, Board of Apprenticeship Training and Confederation of Indian Industries(CII). This helps to accelerate the apprenticeship activities and to provide entrepreneurship training to the students.
Indian Society For Technical Education (ISTE) Thrissur
The society has 2 chapters:
ISTE Govt.Engg. College Chapter
The major objective of the ISTE chapter is to assist and contribute in the production and development of top quality professional engineers and technicians needed by the industries and other organisations. A faculty of an engineering department of the Institution is in charge of ISTE chapter at GEC Thrissur. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, AICTE, DST, and State Govt. are well associated with the ISTE for programmes relating to technical education. The College Chapter of ISTE organizes seminars, workshops, short term courses, invited lectures on the fields of engineering, technology and management for the benefit of the students and faculty members. The major activities organized recently are:
14th ISTE State Convention & Seminar (VIVIKTHA 2015) of ISTE Kerala Section was elegantly held at Government Engineering College, Thrissur in September 2015.
ISTE Induction Training: ISTE Kerala Section conducts Induction Training programmes regularly for the engineering college teachers of Kerala.
ISTE Workshop on Soft skills development: The chapter organized a three day workshop on soft skill development for the teachers of the college.
The 11th Annual state student’s convention VAIBHAVA 2012 was held at GEC, Thrissur
ISTE Student’s Chapter
ISTE GEC Thrissur Chapter has continuously winning the Best Student Chapter Award in the Kerala state annual convention of ISTE for the last five years. The chapter also won Best Chapter Award (in Kerala section) in the National Convention held at Bannari Amman College of Engineering and Technology, Sathyamangalam for its overall leadership and quantum of activities.
IEEE Student Chapter
A student chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers USA is functioning in our college with a motto to create awareness on the budding engineers on the latest in technological innovations. The student chapter conducts a host of activities including Technical Quizzes, Design Contest, and Symposiums etc.
Student Assistance For Education (SAFE)
Student Assistance For Education is an initiative by the alumni of the institute for helping needy students. These students are awarded an amount of Rs.10000/- per annum to meet their requirements. Selection of eligible students is done by a committee comprising of alumni association members and the college counselling cell. The corpus fund is generated through donations from alumni and other well-wishers. At present sixty students are getting this award.

The Department undertake following testing/consultancy works:
Performance Testing of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL),Performance Testing of LED Lamps/ street light lamps, Performance Testing of Halogen Lamps, Testing of Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS), Testing for identifying rating of Motors etc…
